"Jack 'n Jill" is my newest e-Pattern that I have been working on. Vintage dresses and bubbles really inspire me to re-create them, so this is how I came up with this new pattern. I have a collection of vintage boy's rompers that I will have to share with you in my Sewing Journal one of these days. Since I promised some boy's patterns, I want to begin with giving you a preview of the boy's half of my new pattern.
"Jack" is a darling Vintage-look Bubble
The fabric used in this bubble is Blue Pima Cotton Chambray from Fabric Finders that I purchased from Heirloom Sewing for Children - it is the most dreamy-soft fabric - I love it!
The front features 2 sets of 4 tucks
The back also features 2 sets of 4 tucks
Version 2 of "Jack" is made from 100% cotton pique in a soft yellow with light blue sailboats. I can't recall where I purchased this fabric from - it was folded in my stash of favorite fabrics.
Version 2 features a machine embroidered collar & pocket!
Close up of collar
Satin-stitched edge gives a look of piping
Pocket coordinates perfect with the collar
Back of Jack
In case you are wondering, the pattern will include the sailboat collar and pocket in all machine embroidery formats. There will be a few more perks that I will include, but will tell you about those later!
I hope to get started on test-stitching "Jill" and have some previews posted in my Sewing Journal by the end of the week - that is, IF I have time a chance to get into the sewing room this week while I have my sweet 2 yr old grandson here.
I don't have a release date on this pattern yet, but hopefully it will be soon! I have had a request to make this in preemie sizes, so I just might take up that challenge and try to draft some preemie sizes - what do you think? I would love to read your comments on what you think of "Jack".
Update 6/29/10
Thanks for the feedback I have received both here and on my facebook page!  "Jack 'n Jill" currently is sized Newborn-24mos. I am going to work on making a preemie size for those who have requested it!

I think it's fantastic and that you should have had it when my Jack was little. Sooooooo, when are you going to draft something for the older boy set to wear? Jack's no fun anymore, his daddy's gotten picky!

Those who sew for preemies would love to have another pattern to choose from.

Hi Laurie,
I love the Jack pattern and I have a 4 week old baby boy to make it for! I love that you are including the collar and pocket ME designs. I think preemie size, or even a true newborn size would be great! My baby was over 8 pounds at birth and now at 4 weeks, none of the "newborn" size smocked outfits I made fit; they are still huge! I want to put him in rompers, but they are too long and too poofy. If you need a size tester for the little sizes, let me know!

these are just the most precious rompers/bubbles. I love the collar and pocket treatment!!! I think the preemir idea is great!! go for it!!
These make me wistfully wish Holt was still this little!!! Well, maybe just a little bit!!
Great job!!

Hello Laurie,
I'm wondering if the bubbles are lined. I've been looking for information on how to line a bubble. I've made one with pleats and if you can let me know how to do it .
Thank you very much.
