Vintage-inspired Reversible Baby Bonnets

Nothing is sweeter on a baby than to see their little head adorned with a beautiful bonnet! Baby bonnets are a must to protect a little ones from the sun and weather. They are an appealing fashion accessory whether vintage or trendy and can attract attention from anyone who sees a baby wearing one. Baby bonnets can be a work of art, adorned with smocking, silk ribbons, lace, velvet flowers, and intricate embroidery. They can hold sweet memories of past times when handed down from generation to generation. Though style and function has not changed drastically, today's parents have many options; especially those who want their babies to look sweet and chic. My newest ePattern is a collection of Vintage-Inspired Bonnets that I have created so that each one is reversible!
There are four styles that have oodles of possibilities for embellishment and design! All styles can be made for a boy or a girl! Bonnet 1 has a visor for a boy and a gathered ruffle for a girl.
On the boy's bonnet you could add a matching or contrast piping and embroidery or monogramming. For the girl's bonnet I added lace on either side of the gathered fabric ruffle, which gently and sweetly wraps a baby's face.
Bonnet Style 2 is a T-bonnet that is perfect for Baby Dedication, Christening or any special occasion. I made mine in all white, but you could make these really contemporary with trendy fabrics. White on one side and a print on the other would make the bonnet usable for special occasion or everyday! Lace edging gathered or not works beautifully on this bonnet! This bonnet style also would be great to add hand or machine embroidery! I just love the added mother of pearl buttons added on the ribbon and back!
Style 3 is so precious! It features two different styles of brims. The one shown has a slight scallop. A plain rounded brim is also included in the pattern. This bonnet is just as precious as it can be! An added monogram to the back would be adorable!

Style 4 is suitable for a boy or girl. It features a contrast edge that can be folded back or not.

This bonnet also lends itself nicely to hand or machine embroidery. This was designed for a boy, but could easily be adaptable for a girl by adding lace to the edge!

The bonnets come in 3 sizes - Small - Medium - Large, and fit newborn to 24 months. This is an ePattern and comes in PDF format. All styles shown are included in the pattern. You can order the pattern from Brer Rabbit Designs. The pattern is an instant download!

No matter what style you choose to make, you can be certain that babies in their bonnets look ADORABLE!
