(Not Missy)
Then a few weeks ago, I was watching one of Missy Billingsley's videos she posted in her group about serger gathering. She explained how to get more gathers by lifting the flat bar on the bottom of the foot. I tried that, and it was a miracle!
I had wanted to use that feature when making doll clothes for Shelby to save time. It's just good to know it's not my serger!ShirleyChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15977213395999971029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199658097942744635.post-33915800911622048932017-07-27T01:13:06.958-05:002017-07-27T01:13:06.958-05:00Wow! I remember longing for Kitty Benton's when I was expecting my daughter (we didn't know the gender because, even though we had several ultrasounds, she had her hands over the important parts during every one of them). My husband surprised me with a copy after Sarah was born. Though I was unknowingly sewing heirloom clothing for my daughter, I didn't discover the active heirloom sewing community or until she was a tween. Thus, I had never heard of Elizabeth Travis Johnson or her book, in time to buy a copy of the book fresh off of the press. I recently bought a nearly pristine used copy for under $40. What a find!! Happy sewing :)Vanessahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01364884001919746467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199658097942744635.post-55338622208480914802017-06-03T06:44:07.070-05:002017-06-03T06:44:07.070-05:00Hello Laurie,

I am using the pattern found in sew beautiful and am a little perplexed one thing (I am new to heirloom sewing). Why does the pattern say to hem the top of the front panel to the right side (as opposed to folding it back and sewing it down like a normal hem)? It's step #3 for the center front panel.
